Page builder check, plugin cleanup and updates for a trade-fair equipment catalogue

The page editor looked broken after the old page builder disappeared. I checked the whole site, removed the plugins it no longer needed and updated the rest, without touching the hand-patched parts of the shop.

The client came with a site they believed could no longer be edited: the page builder their team relied on seemed to have disappeared. On top of that, plugins had piled up over the years, with no clear picture of what the catalogue still needed or what was safe to update.

I audited the whole installation. The site had long since moved to the block editor with Kadence Blocks and the theme’s own blocks, and nothing of the old builder was left in any page. The page the team was stuck on opens with every block valid and fully editable. Every plugin was checked for data, dependencies and real use: nine the site no longer needed were removed cleanly, without wiping anything from the database, and twelve were brought up to date. One major update was deliberately held back, because it would have silently replaced a custom-patched part of the shop.

The result is a leaner, up-to-date catalogue the client’s team can edit with confidence, and a clear plan for the one update that needs its own care.
