A festival programme on the free calendar plugin, no Pro licence

The festival’s site was a single page, and visitors had no programme to look at: no calendar, no page per event, no list of what happens on which day. The calendar plugin’s shortcodes for this exist only in its paid Pro version.

I saw that limit before the build and proposed a free route to the agency in a short video: the plugin’s event list widget, linked to the calendar and to each event page. Then I set up and styled the events overview and the single event page. The menu had only anchors, so I made it a mix of pages and anchors, and «Kontakt» and the day links led back to the home page from anywhere.

A small script groups the widget’s events by day and writes weekdays and months in German. When an editor adds an event, the home-page list updates itself. I scoped matching the events page to the home page’s look as a separate step for the agency to decide on. In March I switched the event date format to German.

The festival got its full programme on the free plugin. Each time the calendar gets upcoming events, the home page lists them by day without anyone touching it.
